Verena von Lichtenberg and her exhibition in Japan
The Works of Verena von Lichtenberg at the Kagawa Museum – Japan
In 2019, the works of Verena von Lichtenberg were presented at the Kagawa Museum in the city of Takamatsu, on the island of Shikoku, Japan.
The Kagawa Museum is one of the leading cultural institutions of the prefecture. Located near the historic Takamatsu Castle and the Seto Inland Sea, it brings together collections of art, history, and regional heritage, while regularly hosting temporary exhibitions dedicated to Japanese and international art.
The presentation of Verena von Lichtenberg’s works within this prestigious cultural setting marked an important milestone in her artistic journey in Asia. Following her exhibitions in Tokyo and the development of the Nord Licht, Lumière Australe, and Asian Lights series, this presence in Japan further confirmed the growing interest in an artistic oeuvre centered on light, depth, and the sensitive perception of space.
The dialogue between Japanese culture and the artist’s pictorial universe proved particularly fruitful. The search for simplicity, the importance given to emptiness, spatial breathing, and diffused light naturally resonate with Japanese aesthetic sensibilities. This encounter between two approaches to inner landscapes and contemplation allowed visitors to discover a body of work in which depth emerges as much from matter as from silence.
This exhibition forms part of the continuity of the artistic exchanges developed by Verena von Lichtenberg in Japan and bears witness to the international recognition of her work among cultural institutions, collectors, and the Asian public.
